The Differences between Single-stage and Three-stage Emulsifying Pump

The emulsifying pump, also called high shear inline pump, is one kind of precise homogenizing equipment which is driven by the rotation of the stator and the motor. Currently, the most popular inline mixer in the market is single-stage, double-stage, three-stage and multi-stage pump. The stages are defined by the group numbers of the stator and the rotor in the chamber of the pump, and the emulsifying results are different due to various stages of emulsifying pump. The Definition
Both single-stage and three-stage emulsifying pump is made up of three to five layers stator and rotor inside the chamber. But, for single-phrase pump, there is only one set of two layers of rotor and stator inside the chamber while three-stage pump has three stages of rotor and 12 layers of stator. Therefore, the emulsifying result is better than the one of single-stage pump.

The Construction
Regarding the construction, single-stage pump has one set of working head in the chamber while three-stage pump has three sets of working heads. Additionally, the diameter of cutting head of single-stage is larger and the linear velocity is higher than the one of the same power three-stage pump. For instance, 7.5kw three stages cutting head is 100mm while the single-stage is 165mm. which linear velocity is 8m/s faster than three-stage one.

Emulsification Results
Emulsification result of three-stage pump is better than the one of single-stage pump. When the material is processed by single-stage inline mixer, it will be sheared by the rotor and stator and then be emulsified; finally it will be discharged from the outlet of the inline mixer. However, the material is processed by three stages rotor and stator and reduced gradually. Under this circumstance, the emulsifying results will be more stable.

The Feature
Single-stage emulsifying pump is sanitary, easy to operate, which is suitable for batch circulation production material. It can transport material in a short distance and the price is much cheaper. Three-stage emulsifying pump is also sanitary, easy to operate, which is used for batch and continuous production. High production efficiency and better emulsification precision, its price is more expensive. Customers can choose the right one based on their features.

Basically, if emulsifying pump can be connected to tank and work calculatingly and no consideration of time, better to choose the single-stage emulsifying pump. Or material with ductile natural needs to be emulsified such as soybean milk, you also can choose the single-stage pump.
