How Feeding System Works on TDP-0, TDP-5 and ZP-35(1)

According to International practices of feeding system on pill press, 3 main categories are included: bucket feeder/boot feeder system for single punch pill press(eg. TDP-0, TDP-1.5, TDP-5), Tsukigata feeding system for low-medium speed rotary tablet press(eg. ZP-9, ZPW17D), and forced feeding system is optional for high speed tablet press(eg. HZP-200).

The accuracy of pills is related with material formula, material quality, mechanical parts, and adjustment of components. This paper is to discuss how the different feeding approaches work on handheld tablet press TDP-0, rotary tablet press ZP-9 and ZP-35, and how they influence the accuracy of pills.

Bucket feeder/Boot feeder


This feeding system, including wobble feeding and reciprocating feeding, is mainly used on simple tablet pill press machines. Former one is used on TDP Tablet Press series like pill press TDP-5, TDP-0, and the latter one is mainly applied to THP flower basket single punch pill press.

The complete tabletting course of bucket feeder can be generalized as four movements: feeding, flatting, tabletting, and ejecting. The particles will fall into middle die as the bucket feeder wobbles. After pressing into a whole pill, then it will be ejected out by lower punch and scraped off by bucket feeder.


Simple operation and principle make it to be widely used. However, bucket feeding system has some weakness. The pills made by single punch tablet machine are more prone to be laminated as the materials unevenly fall down into middle die when bucket wobbles and only one-side(form upper punch) is pressed. Furthermore, the production efficiency is low as 60 to 80 pieces of pills to be made every minute, so lab experiment use and small batch production is suitable.
