How to Differentiate Tablet Mold?
Tablet tooling is the most fundamental component of tablet press machine equipment, whose
quality directly influences the tableting process and tablets quality. The process of fabricating
molds includes forging, machining, heat treating. In order to ensure a good quality of mold and
lower production cost, the mold should have some precise features, forgeability, machinability,
hardenability, grindability and so on. Actually, there are a wide range of tablet mold, and also have several different categories due to different standard.
- The tablet tooling used on different machine equipment are different.
Single punch tablet tooling, rotary compression tooling, flower-basket
tablet mold are distinctive from each other. - We could differentiate them by their material, then we will have
aluminum mold, alloy steel mold, ceramic mold, chroming mold and
other metal molds. But no matter made in which material,
the tablet tooling should be in good quality and press out good quality
pills. The mold that is rust-proof and corrosion protected is
the most preferring product. - According to standard from different district, we differentiate
tooling from domestic tooling and euro tooling.
Domestic tooling is especially pointed to ZP tooling. ZP-9, ZP-17,
ZP-33 means every revolution of the turret could press out 9, 17 or 33
tablets. Euro tooling generally means BB tooling, B tooling, DB tooling, and D tooling.
The difference among euro tooling is its size and precision.
Type of Tooling | Punch Body(mm) | Diameter(mm) |
D tooling | 25.35 | 38.10 |
B tooling | 19 | 30.16 |
BB tooling | 19 | 24 |
- Shape is also crucial.Punch and die set is different from
each other by its different shape.
We have round, oval, geometric shape. Differentiate
them form their surface,we have plat-faced plain mold,
flat-faced bevel-edged mold, compound cup and so on. Sometimes,
we could custom make special mold with character, number or line. - Base on the number of tip on the tooling, we have
multiple tip toolingand micro-tip tooling.
The former is better used to make mass production of pills whose
diameter is larger than 4mm, while the latter is used to make pills less than 4mm.
