We have introduced how to install a set of punch and die on handheld tablet press TDP-0/1.5/5/6 before, but install punches&dies on rotary tablet press is different. The most obvious difference is that a rotary tablet making presser has multiple stations of punches&dies positioned on a rotary tablet called turret. It needs the operator to install the punch tooling one by one. No matter for die assembly or disassembly, a rotary tablet press will need more time.
► Die assembly
Before assemble or disassemble punches and dies, open side doors first, then install a handwheel on the pulley whose job is to control turret revolution. During the die assembly and disassembly process, the screws and punches sometimes will get stuck on the turntable. And this trouble could be eliminated by rotating handwheel to make turret run slowly. When the nuts and punches reach a fine position, the operator could get them out more easily. Then follow below steps:
- Upper punch assembly
Unscrew the upper punch tight nut, rotate the handwheel to make lower plunger up the the top. Then put the upper punch into the hole of upper plunger,
- Middle die assembly
Put the middle die in the hole of die platen, and make sure the upper punch head is in alignment with middle die. Use tools to tamp the upper punch in order to fix the middle die in turntable. But must confirm that the middle die is paralleled to turntable surface. You could touch to feel whether it is horizonal by finger. At this moment, you could screw the middle die setscrew that could fix middle die, and drag up the upper punch to the notch.
- lower punch assembly
Unscrew lower punch setscrew, and rotate handwheel to make lower plunger up to the top, and insert lower punch into the hole of lower plunger (let the notch slope of the lower punch align lower punch setscrew). There is a need for inserting a shim under the lower punch. Then finally screw lower punch setscrew.
► Die disassembly
- Upper punch disassembly
First of all, uninstall hopper and feeder. Then unscrew upper punch tight nut to pull upper plunger out. If the nuts and upper punch get stuck, rotate the handwheel to a convenient point for taking them out.
- Lower punch disassembly
Unscrew lower punch setscrew, remove the shim under the lower punch. Then rotate handwheel to make lower plunger up to the top, namely, pull the lower punch out by hand. In case of compact match, clip it with pliers (Don’t damage punch blade).
- Die disassembly
Unscrew die setscrew. Screw “lower punch setscrew” off, screw “follower bolt”, and loosen pinion holder. Rotate adjusting pinion to make lower plunger up approximately 10mm and slightly rotate handwheel to make lower plunger push die up. Fetch die by hand. If die is compacted in the hole, don’t forcibly rotate handwheel to push for fear of member failure. Use the demolition device to lever out the middle die
After disassembling die, counterclockwise rotate “adjusting pinion” to make lower plunger down approximately 10mm. Rotate handwheel to make lower plunger up to the top which is at most as high as the bottom of die platen (Don’t neglect this step for fear of collision between lower plunger and die.
